The moment we step out of our houses; we see numerous amount of children working day and night just to feed themselves. One can find these children in hotels - washing dishes, outside of a temple or a restaurant or maybe begging around the streets. We notice them everywhere and consider it a bitter truth of life and even feel sorry for them. Sometimes, we put out a penny from our pocket and wish them a great future and the other time, we thrash them off just to get rid of them.
But do we actually see the children? Not those who are made to beg but those who choose to earn a livelihood through work. What makes them so tough that these small workers refuse to take handouts without the sweat of their brow?
Walking down the tyranny of day to day life, we came across a lot of their kinds. Children who sweep in a train, children who polish shoes, children who sell balloons, children who work as an assistant with the parents and many others who are unaware of the fact that it is illegal to work under the age of 14 in our country. And it will not bother them even if I'll make them aware of these facts. After all, it a matter of survival and livelihood. These children do not accept money without doing work and they do not even ask for it. I believe that these children will be the true backbone of this nation one day.
It really bothers me whenever I see them out of school and working so hard to survive for another day. But the other moment, it makes me think that if these small workers of India are ready to work more than they are supposed to from this tender age, then our country really deserves a great future ahead!
