He woke her up with a sweet kiss on her forehead and breakfast with bed tea in his hand as it seemed they were newly married.
"Happy anniversary, darling", he said.
"Happy anniversary honey. I don't believe we've spent 50 years together", she managed to smile through the pain.
He helped her to shift to the wheelchair. Tears smeared down her cheek. Those memories still remained fresh, like it all happened yesterday. She was too old now, tired to make merry with him as she did before. He wrapped a thick shawl around her and took her out to breathe some fresh air. The lake that was pretty close to their house, was an everyday relief for both of them. That house made him nauseous, it smelled like a hospital. She was sick. She was becoming weak. Those medicines might not help her breathe for a long time. He wanted to break down, life without her would be intolerable. He tried to remain nonchalant.
He caught hold of her palm and grasped it into his. He kissed her, " I wish we were granted another fifty years together".
She smiled, " Your love for me is eternal darling. It never fades away, it keeps existing forever".
He wrapped his arms around her and kept looking at the ripples that kept appearing and disappearing. "My life is short like those ripples, but your love keeps me going for a little longer than the short".
He felt her tears on his arms. But she smiled. She was alive and safe, his love made her stronger.
